Who are “we”, today? That is the question at the centre of Pós-, a new theatre show by performance maker Xavier de Sousa (UK/PT). Set in a fado house in contemporary Lisbon, the show opens up the performance space for a collective reflection on what it means to belong to a place with such a dark history. Placing the host, himself a queer migrant with his own “Luso-Anglo” immigrant language, in the centre of the action, the show invites the audience to construct the narrative over dinner tables, fado music, fried chorizo and the traditional Caldo Verde. The menu’s day specials however focus on the 600 years of colonialism, the construction of Portuguese nationalism, social inequality, and racism.
